Submission to Senate Environment and Communications References Committee, in relation to gaming micro-transactions for chance-based items.
On 27 July the Foundation made a submission to the committee's inquiry with specific references to loot boxes. The submission concentrated on the adequacy of current consumer protection and made particular reference to concerns relating to children. It noted similarities between features known to cause increased risk of harm in forms of gambling and the variable reinforcements offered by opening loot boxes in games.

Through our 2018–2022 research program, the Foundation aims to build the gambling evidence base, as well as research capacity and capability in Victoria and elsewhere, to reduce and prevent gambling harm at a population level.
Importantly, over the next five years, this will include a focus on outer-metropolitan, rural and regional areas of Victoria through partnerships with universities, local organisations and other entities. We are keen to engage with the needs of, and requests from, these communities.

Development and evaluation of an online gambling self-directed program: effective integration into existing services

The goal was to produce an online cognitive-behavioural program emulating the intensity and depth of a face-to-face cognitive-behavioural intervention from which more brief and targeted interventions could be developed.

Submission to the Senate Committee inquiry into proposed restrictions to gambling and betting promotions by online content service providers

On 12 January 2018, the Foundation made a submission to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee inquiry in relation to the Communications Legislation amendment (Online Content Services and Other Measures) Bill 2017. The Bill will establish a legislative framework for applying gambling promotions restrictions to online content and broadcasting services should negotiations to amend the industry codes fail. The restrictions are due to commence in March 2018.
