Clients with complex needs: understanding personality disorders and the forensic population
Attend this full-day workshop organised by the Alfred Mental Health and Gambling Harm Service Victoria for a nourishing day of professional development. The morning session will cover the development of disordered personalities, and the implications for counselling. In the afternoon, the session will focus on forensic populations, with a focus on stalking, fire-lighting and other impulse-related behaviours.
Problem gambling and mental health
Attend this two-hour session to learn about the Alfred Mental Health and Gambling Harm Program, a state-wide multidisciplinary service that provides support to front-line problem gambling services in their work with clients that are experiencing mental health as well as gambling difficulties. The session will provide an overview to the program, and also provide information on accessing the program for suitable clients.

The Foundation Course - December
This course is open to all Gambler's Help managers and staff, this includes local Gambler’s Help, Aboriginal Gambler’s Help, In-Language Gambler’s Help services and prevention workers. It is ideal for new staff members as it provides a good introduction to gambling in Victoria and an overview to the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation.
TC and FC teamwork: Referral and collaboration
This session for both TCs and FCs will establish a clear understanding of the different roles of each, then look at ways the two can or should collaborate in producing the best possible outcomes for clients.
Criminal justice: your clients, from offending to sentence
This session will help financial and therapeutic counsellors assist clients who may become defendants in criminal matters. Attendees will learn about the judicial process, how to access legal information and referrals, working with lawyers and court service provides, and how to provide assistance through this process.
Single session work - making the most of every encounter
This one-day workshop will address effective ways to support families when time and resources may be limited. Participants will be introduced to the ‘Single Session Work’ (SSW) approach, and to develop practice skills in seizing every opportunity to make a difference. Participants will explore how a SSW approach may be integrated into their own work context.
Family law - Level 2
Separation in many instances is a major contributor to poverty. What should I tell my client about separation? This session will provide an overview of the family law system and look into division of assets, joint debts, child support and spouse maintenance.

Knowledge in action workshop - Bendigo
The first 'Knowledge in action' workshop held by the Foundation together with community and research partners, this full-day session focuses on sharing research along with local knowledge and experience, and encouraging collaboration in the community.
Youth is at the heart of this workshop's discussion. Whether you are a young person or have young people’s interests in mind, the workshop presents a unique opportunity to hear from researchers, community leaders and local professionals who are working to support the health and wellbeing of young people.
Life beyond gambling: Peer supervision for Gambler’s Help counsellors
This online peer supervision is a space for GH Counsellors to feel part of, and contribute to, a state-wide community of practice.
Peer supervision involves sharing experiences, stories of recovery, discussing therapeutic techniques and working through complex challenges together.
Sessions will be facilitated by Bronwyn Gresham, Clinical Psychologist, from the state-wide Mental Health and Gambling Harm service.
Registration is reserved specifically for clinicians working as Gamblers Help Counsellors funded through the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation.
Participants will need access to a computer that has both a microphone and video, and reliable internet connection.

Sensational practice
Sensational practice is a full-day workshop to introduce you to neuroscience and sensory modulation. Sensory modulation is one important we people self-organise, and process sensory and motor information. Over the day, you will learn about sensory profiles, emotional regulation and how you can put this into practice to support clients affected by gambling harm and mental health.
Gaming products, self-exclusion and venue demonstration - September
This workshop will explore the operation of a number of gambling products, both land-based and online, aimed at allowing those working with those gambling to better understand these products. The session will also cover self-exclusion programs for the various gambling forms and close with a tour/demonstration of gambling products within the gaming venue environment.

Motivational Interviewing

Trauma informed practice
Trauma stems from a normal response to overwhelming stress. Many people experience psychological trauma as a response to one off extreme events, or it can be repeated trauma through ongoing relationships. This workshop will provide information on the difference between single incident and complex trauma, the impact of trauma on brain development, and discuss possible responses to trauma and how to work therapeutically with survivors.

Bringing your best to supervision
A practical workshop for Supervisors and Supervisees focusing upon effective approaches and optimal supervision outcomes.
This workshop explores how both supervisors and supervisees provide input towards key processes in supervision. The topics addressed in this workshop are: silence in supervision, triggers in supervision, self-reflection in supervision and preparation for supervision.
Additionally, knowing how to enquire without asking questions in session is a necessary tool for both supervisors & supervisees. Participants will be invited to reflect, practice & challenge their supervisory practices and participation through individual and group exercises, case studies and discussion.
Understanding mental health in an indigenous context: Level 2
Many of our clients suffer from mental health issues. This session will start off by looking at anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts as three common mental health problematics and identify associated signs and symptoms.
