Victorians lose $2.617 billion on pokies in 2015–2016
On 22 July 2016, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation released figures on pokies expenditure for the 2015–2016 financial year.
In total, $2.617 billion was lost in Victoria on the pokies between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016. This is an increase of 1.7 per cent or $45 million from 2014–2015 and is the highest amount lost on pokies since 2011–2012.
The increase in real terms, adjusted for inflation, is 0.14 per cent and follows a 1.24 per cent increase in real terms in 2014–2015. Until the last two years, pokies expenditure had not increased in real terms since 2008–2009.
