Strong Foundation presence at national gambling conference in Melbourne

Foundation research will feature heavily at the 27th annual National Association for Gambling Studies (NAGS) conference in Melbourne this week.

A notable 12 sessions will be based on Foundation research findings with a further nine from Foundation staff speaking on topics that include clinical issues, industry insights, and our community prevention, sporting and schools programs.

We’ll explore a complex, emerging style of gambling – betting on the outcomes of lotteries around the world – and discuss the characteristics of those who choose to participate in this new gambling hybrid.

Case studies, including evaluations, will be presented on Incolink's successful apprentice education project and the Horn of Africa Communities Network's emerging communities responsible gambling program. Both have been awarded Foundation prevention grants.

Other sessions in which Foundation staff will be involved at the NAGS conference include a panel discussion on the findings of a an online cognitive behavioural therapy trial for problem gambling, as well as new responsible service of gaming training introduced across Victoria earlier this year to provide safer environments for venue patrons.

We will also provide an overview of Foundation-funded Gambler’s Help integrated service activities and achievements.
