Premier surprises ‘Fight for you’ heroes with a personal thank you

Our 'Fight for the real you' campaign heroes were honoured at an intimate event on Thursday 5 September 2013 at Parliament House, and received quite a surprise when the Premier of Victoria popped in to say thank you in person.

Foundation chief executive officer Serge Sardo says the special occasion was a wonderful opportunity for the Foundation and the Victorian Government to thank the campaign heroes for their contribution to the successful problem gambling campaign.

"These remarkable people have tackled their gambling problems in front of the camera and in front of the world. Premier Napthine launched the campaign back in March, so it was fitting for him to warmly congratulate the heroes at the end of the campaign," said Mr Sardo.

Minister for Liquor and Gaming Regulation Edward O'Donohue presented the heroes with a personal letter and a framed montage of photos from campaign.

Visibly moved by the occasion, campaign hero Anna Knappe was humbled by her conversations with Premier Napthine and Minister O'Donohue.

"The 100 Day Challenge has been such a rewarding experience and I'm pleased I've helped other people. It was so nice of the Premier and the Minister to take the time to meet with us, it makes me very proud," said Anna.

Campaign hero Matt Torcasio said he couldn't have battled his gambling addiction without support.

"I will be forever grateful for the support I've received in the 100 Day Challenge. My girlfriend, family and friends have been amazing. I've even had complete strangers come up to me in the street to wish me well, and now the Premier!" said Matt.

More than just an awareness campaign, www.fightforyou.com.au gives people the opportunity to sign up for the 100 Day Challenge, join online forums, chat live with a counsellor, receive tips and tools for controlling their gambling, set goals, track their gambling and keep their own private written or video diary.
