Joining forces for Responsible Gambling Awareness Week
The Foundation recently joined forces with government, councils, the gaming industry, community and sporting organisations for Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, 20-26 May 2013.
Officially launched by Minister for Liquor and Gaming Regulation Edward O'Donohue, the week promoted responsible gambling throughout Victoria via a series of community events and forums.
Now in its eighth year, Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW) aims to highlight to Victorians that perceptions often don't match reality when it comes to gambling.
This year, RGAW explored issues surrounding the rapid increase in online gambling and sports betting advertising, particularly its effects on young people.
Guest speakers throughout the week included eminent gambling researchers Dr Jeffery Derevensky, Dr Sally Gainsbury and Dr Daniel King.
During RGAW, the Foundation launched the new Responsible Gambling Guide, an easy to read resource that explores different kinds of gambling, dispels myths and provides tips for responsible gambling.
