Hawks and Vixens join forces on responsible gambling

AFL Premiers Hawthorn Football Club and Trans-Tasman League Premiers the Melbourne Vixens have joined forces with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation to promote responsible gambling.

At a special meeting at Ricoh Centre on Wednesday 10 December 2014, Foundation chief executive Serge Sardo welcomed Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox and his club to the 'Gambling's not a game' program.

The room was full of smiles as Hawthorn dual-premiership stars Luke Breust and Bradley Hill swapped victory stories with Vixens netballers Madi Robinson, Liz Watson and Kate Moloney.

'Gambling's not a game' is an education program that aims to counter the growing culture of gambling in clubs and protect young people from the risks of gambling.

The Hawks and Vixens will foster a culture of responsible gambling within their own clubs and encourage grass-roots clubs throughout Victoria to follow their lead.

Hawthorn Football Club is the 40th club to sign the responsible gambling charter and commit to providing a safe club environment and to minimising the exposure of gambling activities and marketing to young people.

The program is a natural fit for the family oriented club that believe leadership and strong values are just as important off the field as on the field.

With back-to-back premierships and over 68,000 members during the 2014 season, the mighty brown and gold is a welcomed partner for the Foundation.

Conceived in 2013, the 'Gambling's not a game' program continues to grow in popularity as clubs recognise the importance of focusing on the love of sport, not gambling.

The Melbourne Vixens together with Netball Victoria, have also endorsed the program and continue to work with the Foundation to raise awareness among netballers of all ages across the state.
