A-league players look after their teammates when it comes to gambling

A-league players have been learning how to look after themselves and their teammates when it comes to gambling from Foundation's 'Gambling's not a game' team as part of the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) player inductions.

Travelling across Australia and New Zealand over the past month, the team have presented to all 10 A-league teams to educate players about responsible gambling.

These presentations have been well received by players who have commented how they now feel more equipped with practical strategies to gamble responsibly and know who to turn to if need if they are concerned about their own or someone else's gambling.

Among the highlights of the presentations has been Foundation ambassador Matt Torcasio's powerful story of overcoming a seven-year gambling addiction.

It was clear that Matt's experiences resonated with players who said his story was the most memorable and moving part of the presentation.

One player said he was "touched by his words." Another player said, "Matt's story was very real and I can see how easily gambling can affect your life."

Several players even took the time to speak to Matt after the presentations to congratulate him on his recovery.

Other players said they would remember to "set a limit" when they gamble and to "look after your teammates."

The Foundation would like to thank the PFA for inviting us to participate in these player induction sessions to educate A-league players about the risks associated with gambling and how gambling related harm can be prevented.

We wish all the A-league teams and players the best of luck for this upcoming season and thank them for taking a responsible approach to gambling.
