Submission to the Senate Committee inquiry into proposed restrictions to gambling and betting promotions by online content service providers
On 12 January 2018, the Foundation made a submission to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee inquiry in relation to the Communications Legislation amendment (Online Content Services and Other Measures) Bill 2017. The Bill will establish a legislative framework for applying gambling promotions restrictions to online content and broadcasting services should negotiations to amend the industry codes fail. The restrictions are due to commence in March 2018. -
Submission to the Australian Banking Association consultation on the use of credit cards for gambling transactions
The Foundation has made a submission to the Australian Banking Association consultation on the use of credit cards for gambling transactions. The Foundation recommends banning the use of credit cards for gambling. We are particularly concerned about the use of credit cards for online wagering. Race and sports betting are among the forms of gambling most associated with gambling harm. More than 20 per cent of people who gamble on these products are highly likely to experience harm. This group is the most likely to use credit cards to gamble. -
Submission to the Royal Commission on Family Violence
On 29 May 2015, the Foundation made a submission to the Royal Commission into Family Violence that provided information and arguments based on first-hand accounts and research that confirms an association between family violence and problem gambling. The association does not confirm any causal relationships between the two, but it is clear from international studies and emerging evidence in Australian studies that there is a higher than usual presence of problem gambling in families where violence is present. -

On 4 March 2013, the Foundation made a submission to the Parliamentary Joint Select Committee inquiry into the advertising and promotion of gambling services in sport. The Committee's final report references the Foundation's submission multiple times. In particular, it highlights the Foundation's concerns that children under 11 years have difficulty distinguishing between advertising and program content. -

A key focus of the submission is ensuring gambling harm is understood as a mental health and public health issue, and that health services are better able to assist people with comorbid problem gambling and mental health conditions. -

Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation submission: Gaming micro-transactions for chance based items
Submission to Senate Environment and Communications References Committee, in relation to gaming micro-transactions for chance-based items.On 27 July the Foundation made a submission to the committee's inquiry with specific references to loot boxes. The submission concentrated on the adequacy of current consumer protection and made particular reference to concerns relating to children. It noted similarities between features known to cause increased risk of harm in forms of gambling and the variable reinforcements offered by opening loot boxes in games. -
