The Foundation has made a submission to the Australian Banking Association consultation on the use of credit cards for gambling transactions. The Foundation recommends banning the use of credit cards for gambling. We are particularly concerned about the use of credit cards for online wagering. Race and sports betting are among the forms of gambling most associated with gambling harm. More than 20 per cent of people who gamble on these products are highly likely to experience harm. This group is the most likely to use credit cards to gamble. -

Submission to Senate Environment and Communications References Committee, in relation to gaming micro-transactions for chance-based items.On 27 July the Foundation made a submission to the committee's inquiry with specific references to loot boxes. The submission concentrated on the adequacy of current consumer protection and made particular reference to concerns relating to children. It noted similarities between features known to cause increased risk of harm in forms of gambling and the variable reinforcements offered by opening loot boxes in games. -
