Local Prevention Program evaluation summary 2014 – 2017

This document provides a summary of the Local Prevention Program evaluation findings.
The evaluation focused primarily on the results and impacts of 17 funded projects delivered as part of phase 2 of the program, which ran from December 2015 to June 2017. The projects were diverse and directed at a range of settings and populations, including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups, Victorian Aboriginal communities, young men and workplaces.

Social influences on gamblers by risk group: An egocentric social network analysis

The research aimed to map the social networks of low- and moderate-risk gamblers, in terms of their gambling and other potentially risky behaviours, such as alcohol consumption. It sought to understand whether the social networks of low-risk and moderate-risk gamblers differ to those of non-gamblers, non-problem gamblers and problem gamblers.

Submission to Senate Environment and Communications References Committee, in relation to gaming micro-transactions for chance-based items.
On 27 July the Foundation made a submission to the committee's inquiry with specific references to loot boxes. The submission concentrated on the adequacy of current consumer protection and made particular reference to concerns relating to children. It noted similarities between features known to cause increased risk of harm in forms of gambling and the variable reinforcements offered by opening loot boxes in games.

Through our 2018–2022 research program, the Foundation aims to build the gambling evidence base, as well as research capacity and capability in Victoria and elsewhere, to reduce and prevent gambling harm at a population level.
Importantly, over the next five years, this will include a focus on outer-metropolitan, rural and regional areas of Victoria through partnerships with universities, local organisations and other entities. We are keen to engage with the needs of, and requests from, these communities.
