Daniel Ward visits VFL club Box Hill Hawks
Former AFL Footballer and ‘Fight for the real you’ campaign participant Daniel Ward spoke to VFL club Box Hill Hawks last night as part the Foundation’s partnership with AFL Victoria.
Daniel spoke to 40 players and club officials about having overcome his own problems with gambling.
“By talking about my experiences I hope that I might be able to influence players about the risks associated with gambling, and the impact it can have on clubs, friends and family,”
My story not only highlights the consequences of problem gambling, but also tells the story of how I faced my demons to overcome my addiction,” said Daniel.
AFL Victoria General Manager Grant Williams believes Daniel puts a human face to the problems that can be associated with gambling.
“Daniel’s honesty and openness during his club visits helps to raise awareness of the risks of gambling. He speaks candidly to players about his personal experience of struggling with a gambling addiction in the hope it will reach them on another level,” said Mr Williams.
Players were engaged in Daniel’s presentation last night, asking plenty of questions which Daniel answered openly and honestly.
As part of the Foundation’s partnership with AFL Victoria, Daniel will visit two more football clubs this season to share his story and promote responsible gambling to young football players and local communities.
