Commonwealth inquiry into online gambling reflects Victorian expertise
Gambling has been a hotter topic than usual in the five days since the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs tabled the report of its inquiry into online gambling and its impacts on those experiencing gambling harm.
The Committee’s recommendation to implement a comprehensive ban on all forms of advertising for online gambling has been the subject of much media and public discussion. Like many in the community concerned about children’s exposure to prolific gambling ads, and the consequences thereof, the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation welcomed the recommendation.
Having now digested the full report, the Foundation’s CEO, Shane Lucas, agreed to a Q&A session to share his thoughts on it, which included drawing attention to how closely the 31 recommendations reflect the Foundation’s expert advice on preventing and reducing gambling harm.
